Jonathan Grant “Jonny” Evans was born on the 3 of January 1988. He was born in Belfast in Northern Ireland. About 3-4 Years ago my Dad and I used to throw abuse at Evans through the TV(It’s funny because i’m a United fan, right?)like there was no tomorrow, he was such a liability at the back, always making mistakes, loose passes, rash tackles. Then in the 2011-2012 season Evans was a changed man, I’m guessing it was the vote of confidence Sir Alex placed in him by handing him the No.6, formerly worn by the legend that is Wesley Brown. I’m going to track back a bit now, all the way to the start of Evans United career, he made his debut in the infamous 2-0 loss to Coventry at home in the (what was then) Carling cup. He made his Premier league debut against Chelsea in a 1-1 draw in the September of 2008, filling in for the suspended Nemanja Vidic. Sorry I had to stick those facts in somewhere as the title is ‘The rise of Jonny Evans’. aA i was saying before I rudely interrupted myself, the key turning point in Evans’s career is when he received the no.6 of Fergie, which meant he knew he’d now be an integral part of the Manchester United squad under Fergie. In this breakthrough season he got sent off agaisnt Man City in the infamous 6-1 defeat at Old Trafford, which I had the honor of being at, I use the word honor loosely when I say this, it was a very difficult day highlighted by Evans performance. This game helped Evans massively, he gained a lot of character and determination after this game, to prove the media and fans who were seriously doubting him, wrong.
Evans' first goal for United came in a 5-0 win against Wolves in the league, not known as a goal-scoring defender Evans got his first goal for United after 100 games for the club. Evans made his International debut before he made is United debut, which is quite frankly amazing, it shows the class of the United team at the time! His debut was the famous Northern Ireland win over Spain in 2006, the game ended 3-2. Now onto my opinion of Evans without facts and figures. I believe Evans is our best defender, bold statement? Maybe so, but ever since Nemanja Vidic had that horrible injury two seasons ago, he lost his way and Evans took on the mantle of the best defender at United. Evans has some competition to keep up his title of ‘Best United defender’ with Jones hot on his heels as well as Moyes looking for Centre-backs elsewhere (for some reason he see’s that as a priority over CM’s but I don’t want to go off topic). Eventually I do see Jones overtaking Evans in terms of ability but for now Evans is the best defender us United fans have. Evans has a maturity about him now, he’s very comfortable on the ball also, he used to panic more than me when I remember I’ve got college work in for the next day. Evans likes a long ball forward, one criticism of him that i do have from the past 2 years (he probably learned it off one of his centre back partners Mr. #5 AKA Mr. Hat salesman, AKA Rio Ferdinand). Jonny has improved almost everything in his game, his passing is much better (when he doesn’t knock it long), his confidence is high, everything about Evans has improved vastly, he’s even cut out the stupid mistakes from his game, which is very hard to do. When I see a United line-up before a game, he is now one of the first people I look for on the team-sheet.
Jonny Evans is the best deep lying false Liberero Enganche sweeping volante in the world.
