Paul Lambert's Aston Villa came from behind two times to shock fans of the Premier League with a 3-2 win over 2011/12 Champions, Manchester City.
The home fans celebrated goals from Karim El Ahmadi and Leonadro Bacuna cancelled out goals from both Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko, before Villa Park rocked on its foundations as Andreas Weimann rolled in an highly unexpected winner.
The side who suffered the threat of relegation last season struggled to get hold of the ball for lengthy spans of the game but despite City's best efforts, they ended the game with the three points.
Pelligrini's men started the game as they left off in their 4-1 drubbing at home against Manchester United, very well. They looked bright, Yaya Toure once again powering through midfield and dictating the play brilliantly alongside summer signing, Fernandinho. Within 3 minutes they had already created a good chance; James Milner shooting just wide following a nice little dummy from Dzeko to let Kolorov's cross go to Milner.
Another 5 minutes and City had another attempt on goal; Nasri's well placed through-ball gave Dzeko the chance to put the visitors in front but Brad Guzan made a fine save to stop the Bosnian.
The Citizens would not stop powering towards Guzan's goal and after chance after chance after chance, it was looking like they would go into the break without a reward. However, Toure's last minute deflected shot went inches wide and the corner resulted in Toure finally getting his goal. Nasri's corner came in and as Villa fumbled about in the box, Toure pounced and smashed the volley into Guzan's net.
As the teams came back out for the break, fans all over the country assumed City would net a few more and go home with an easy three points. Be that as it may, Villa shocked those fans by grabbing an equaliser 6 minutes in to the half. With only their second real chance of the game, El Ahmadi netted controversially. He was slipped in nicely by Bacuna and seemed to be offside but he played to whistle and Hart couldn't do anything to stop him.
City sprung back into action, trying to avoid humiliation from their on watching rivals and 5 minutes later they once again netted. Nasri was again involved, again sending in the cross for Dzkeo to head in.
The Villains slowly worked their way back into the game, heaving themselves up from the depths of defeat to make attack after attack. They were rewarded with a free-kick on 73 minutes after Matija Nastasic fouled Weimann. Bacuna stepped up, no sign of nerves and curled a beauty of a free-kick past the helpless Joe Hart.
For jut minute, it seemed they'd both leave with a point but Villa went route one to the goal and as every Villa fan's heart skipped a beat, he rode straight past the on coming Hart and skipped past two defenders to roll the ball into the net.
As he wheeled away, everyone knew it wasn't over and City tried to prove that. They piled the pressure on but it came to nothing and Villa had provided the shock win of the weekend.
