As the strongest defence so far in the league met the strongest attack, many expected a fairly close game. Manuel Pelligrini's City had something to say about that though. Aguero and Negredo both grabbed a brace while Jesus Navas delicately chipped Hugo Lloris after 13 seconds to give City an easy 3 points and leave them in 4th at the end of the game.
Even as City weren't at their best they pressured a possession-keeping Tottenham side well before pushing on in the second half to move the ball around the park nicely, slotting in a few goals as well.
The tyranny started quickly. Tottenham kicked off and passed it back to keeper, Hugo Lloris. The Frenchman kicked it away, poorly. City picked up on it. Jesus Navas, making his first start since September, picked up on the loose ball before beautifully chipping it over a frantically, backing up, Hugo Lloris.
It took 33 minutes for City to capitalise on countless attacks as Sandro turned in Alvaro Negredo's shot to double City's lead. A quick counter-attack following a rare Spurs chance ripped Tottenham apart led to Negredo getting on the end of a cross, his volley rocketing against two Tottenham defenders and into the back of the net.
7 minutes later and City had three, Sergio Aguero getting his 9th league goal of the season. Navas took the ball out on the wing after 10 compact passes in the middle of the pitch. He was given all the time in the World and took advantage of it, crossing the ball in right onto Aguero's foot, which guided it in.
Half-time came and City still hadn't got into top gear. Meanwhile, Andre Villas Boas wanted to get back into the game, bringing Emmanuel Adebayor on for Lewis Holtby. Within just 5 minutes, the game had gone from 'a big win' to 'a rout'. Aguero got his second, becoming top scorer in the league and the first player to reach 10 goals. The goal really summed up the match, one mistake from Spurs' defence, high up the pitch, and Yaya Toure drove forward, squaring it to Aguero who finished calmly, slotting it past Lloris easily.
Another 5 minutes and Negredo had what he would like to call his second but was technically his first. Even though it was his first, it was worth two. He kept the ball in a tight space before getting it out of his feet and smashing it past a helpless Lloris.
Pelligrini made a few changes through out the next half hour, the most notable being Aguero coming off. But that didn't make City falter, 5 goals wasn't enough for Jesus Navas. The Spaniard was slotted through on goal and looked very composed as he neatly finished.
In just a few words you can sum up the game. Manchester City - good, Tottenham - Bad.
Despite the scoreline, City weren't as good as the can be at any point throughout the game while Tottenham didn't look comfortable on the ball in their own half.
